Follow Lala Gutchen, Erub Meuram woman from Erub in the Torres Strait, as she navigates the challenges of patchy mobile and internet coverage at the very edge of Australia's mobile network. As we enter the 21st century, longstanding cultural practices such as fishing and language maintenance have been irrevocably shaped by modern communications challenges. Lala is an Erub First Language program coordinator and educator, cultural leader, and NAIDOC award winner, and has worked as a co-researcher with the ADM+S / Telstra 'Mapping the Digital Gap' project since 2022, tracking digital inclusion outcomes in remote First Nations communities. End of the Line is a co-production of the ARC Centre for Automated Decision-Making & Society and Torres Strait Islander Media Association (TSIMA). The ‘Mapping the Digital Gap’ project received funding support from Telstra and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (CE200100005).
