Mr Naps teaches Ms Nixon some words in Miriam Mir. Meriam Mir is the traditional language of the people from the islands of Mer (Murray Island), Erub (Darnley Island) and Ugar (Stephen Island) in the Eastern Torres Strait Islands. It is spoken by a number of families at Cairns West State School.
